The College was set up by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Bihar in the year 1960. Earlier, the affiliation was under Tilkamanjhi Bhagalpur University. After the establishment of Aryabhatta Knowledge University in 2008, affiliation of the college is transferred to this university.

Admission[edit]

Earlier, undergraduate admissions were done through the BCECE conducted by Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board. From 2019 and onwards admissions is taken through UGEAC based on rank list of JEE Main conducted by National Testing Agency.

Started with the name AAGHAZ the festival comprises Parakram the annual Sports meet, Umang the Cultural festival and technical fest. Later in 2013, the name aaghaz was changed to Technoriti by the student organization which additionally included Sangam as the Alumni meet of BCE Bhagalpur.

Principals

MIT (established with the name College of Civil Engineering, Muzaffarpur) began on 25 September 1954 with one discipline: Civil Engineering. Committee recommended the establishment of higher technical institutions in India, along the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and consulting from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign along with affiliated secondary institutions. The report urged that work should start with the speedy establishment of major institutions in the four quarters of the country with the ones in the east and the west to be set up immediately It was inaugurated by C.P.N. Singh, governor of then East Punjab (now PunjabHaryana and parts of Himachal Pradesh). The first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation of the main building on 21 April 1956. Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering disciplines were added in 1960 and the institute was renamed as Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology. Pharmacy and Leather Technology were added in 1978 and 1986 respectively. Information Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering disciplines were introduced in 2001.[4] In December 2008, the government of Bihar declared that MIT would be developed into a model engineering college.[5]

The campus is in the north-west corner of Muzaffarpur city, along MuzaffarpurMotihari road, and spread over an area of 85 acres (340,000 m2) four kilometers from Muzaffarpur railway station. The institute is flanked by the river Burhi Gandak on the north, a reservoir on the east, MuzaffarpurMotihari road on the south, and the road network on the west.

From 2019 onwards, admissions will be based on national Joint Entrance Examination – Main merit list. Students who want to enroll must appear at the exam that is conducted by National Testing Agency.

Earlier Undergraduate admissions were done through the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board). The entrance examination was held in two stages: First stage was the screening test or preliminary test. The screened candidates had to appear in the main examination (second stage). Based on the merit list in the second stage, successful candidates were allotted seats in different engineering colleges of Bihar.

Admission to postgraduate programmes is based upon score and rank in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by IITs/IISc.

There are seven boys hostels having a capacity to accommodate 1400 students and one girls hostel (the Golden Jubilee Girls Hostel) with a capacity to accommodate 200 students.hostel -01(damodar hostel) was constructed in 1952 before college main building was constructed. Guest Houses for parents and others are also located in the campus.

MIT Sports Club[edit]

The sports club has been functioning since 1954 and provides facilities for CricketLawn TennisBadmintonVolleyballBasketballFootball Table- Tennis and Indore games. But since 2000 the sports club became inactive and unofficially closed. Later on, in 2017 a group of students from 2K15 batch has relaunched the platform of sports in this college as MIT SPORTS CLUB. The club organizes the institute's annual sports, an Inter-college sports meet and severals of lawn tennis, badminton, chess, etc. tournament every year at MIT sports grounds. Inter college and Interstates tournaments held every year.

SIRTDO[edit]

The Small Industries Research, Training and Development Organization (SIRTDO) was established at MIT in 1976 with financial support from the government of Bihar with the objective to encourage entrepreneurship among MIT students. The organization organizes orientation programmes with the collaboration of other national level institutes. SIRTDO acts as incubation center for new business ventures by providing facilities at the campus and provides training to the entrepreneurs in product design, development and management, marketing and finance.

Previously the institute was known as Indian College of Engineering-Motihari and was established in 1980. In 1994 all staffs and students were transferred to other engineering colleges of Bihar and the institute was shut down due to some political reason. Later in November 2008, the Government reopen the institute & the name was changed from Indian College of Engineering to Motihari College of Engineering.[citation needed]

Campus[edit]

Motihari College of Engineering has a permanent campus of 48 acres located at Bairiya Fursatpur, Motihari, East-Champaran district of Bihar in India. It is 8 kilometers from nearest railway station Bapudham Motihari and 5 kilometers from Motihari bus-stand situated at Chhatauni. Regular auto rickshaw services are available from both places to the institute. It is approximately 2.5 kilometers from NH28A.[citation needed]

Library[edit]

The Library of MCE Motihari was started in early of 2008 with approximately 400 books and one online resource.[citation needed] As of 2021 Library have total 22,404 volumes of books available, which includes 4504 books for Civil, 4477 books for mechanical, 2949 books for CSE, 3919 books for EEE and 4330 books for General engineering subjects.[citation needed] Library caters to the information need of its highly demanding faculty members, students, research scholars as well as staff of the Institute, by offering a wide range of Information Technology (IT) based (and value added) services and products. The library remains open from 09:00 AM to 4:20 PM, on all working days throughout the year.[citation needed]

Admissions[edit]

Since 2019, admissions are being taken by UGEAC-BCECEB, which considers JEE-Main merit list as the scoring criterion.[citation needed] Students desirous to take admissions must appear in JEE-Main Exam, conducted by National Testing Agency(NTA). Earlier, UG admissions were made through the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination(BCECE) conducted by Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board, Under Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Act, 1995 of Bihar government. Although, any student to get admitted in any of the engineering colleges located in Bihar, which uses UGEAC as the admission norm, requires the student to be a bonafide resident of Bihar.

Curriculum[edit]

The B. Tech. program consists of eight semesters spread over four academic years. Motihari College of Engineering is affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna. M.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering and other specialization is expected to start from upcoming academic year after getting mandatory approval from AICTE-New Delhi.

Hostel facilities[edit]

MCE Motihari has two boy’s hostels namely old boy's hostel & new boy's hostel and one girl’s hostel. All the hostels are very close to the academic complex. Presently over 500 students are residing in these hostels. There are two separate Boy’s hostels one for 1st year and 2nd year and second For 3rd year and Final year. Every Hostel has approximately 300 rooms. There are also single seated rooms are available which are normally allocated to final year and pre-final year boarders. Multi-seated accommodation constitute 2-seated and 3-Seated rooms which are allotted to the students of 1st and 2nd year. There is a lush of greenery around the hostels. In addition to the adequate health care facilities. The hostels are equipped with Football, Basketball, badminton, chess, carrom and table tennis facilities. The Boys’ hostel campus has a basketball court, a volleyball court, and badminton court. A football-cum-cricket ground will also be available. There are three students’ mess one in girl’s hostel and another two are in boy’s hostel and there is also one canteen in the hostel-campus. Additionally one boys hostel of 300 capacity and one girls hostel of 150 capacity is proposed by college and an amount of Rs.32 lakh is also sanctioned by Department of Science & Technology, Government of Bihar. The construction of new hostels is expected to start soon.

Nalanda College of Engineering is a Government Engineering College working under the Department of Science and Technology. It has been established by the Government of Bihar and its foundation laid by Nitish Kumar in 2008. It is situated on the holy land where Lord Buddha experienced enlightenment and Lord Vardhaman Mahavir embraced Nirvana. It belongs to the land of ancient Nalanda University where students across the world studied Buddhism.[citation needed]

NCE Chandi functions from a 51.64 acres (21 ha) campus in Chandi, Bihar. It is located in 17.3 km distance from the District's main city Bihar Sharif and 42 km from the State main city Patna.

With a cost of around Rs 40 crore, five buildings including laboratory, workshops, girls' and boys' hostels and residence for the principal of the college have been constructed in the first phase while the tender process for the construction of another 22 major and nearly a dozen minor buildings at an estimated cost of Rs 180 crore, is being initiated. The initial cost of entire construction was estimated at around Rs 166 crore in 2012 which increased to Rs 220 crore in three years.[citation needed]

Nalanda College of Engineering offers undergraduate courses in the field of engineering and technology. Its courses are recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Admission is through Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (BCECE). Vocational courses admission, directly to the second year, is through the BCECE Lateral Entry Competitive Examination.[3]

Mentor Institute[edit]

IIT Bombay is the mentor institute of NCE Chandi.[4] It agreed to become the mentor institution after going through the infrastructure facilities of the institute. IIT-Bombay will provide training/orientation to teachers of the Nalanda College of Engineering.

With the mentorship third-year students of the college will get an opportunity to do a two-month internship at IIT-Bombay and during the internship they will stay in Mumbai.

It was previously known as Jagannath Mishra Institute of Technology (JMIT). In 2008 it reopened with a new name, Darbhanga College of Engineering, under Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU). In 2011, it became a member of the AKU Family. The owners of this property were Late Sri Jyoti Prasad Singh Ji, landlord of HariharPur Estate who constructed it in 1935. after the great earthquake of Bihar in 1934, this was constructed by M/s Bhambhri & Co. Ahmedabad and is an earthquake-proof construction. It changed hands in 1982 due to the continuous security threat issues for then JMIT.

The college offers courses in computer science and engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, and civil engineering. It includes 12 seats for "Lateral Entry" for all trades, especially for diploma holder students.

Gaya College of Engineering is a public state university in GayaBiharIndia, affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna and approved by AICTEMinistry of Education.

History[edit]

In 1958, Magadh Engineering College was established. It ran from 1958 to 1994. It was revived and inaugurated as Gaya College of Engineering by the Chief Minister of Bihar on 19 November 2008.[3]

Campus[edit]

The campus is situated at Bihar State Highway-4 Shrikrishnanagar locality on the outskirts of Gaya district, fifteen km from the main town. The college is spread over 87 acres. There are two academic buildings, one workshop and two campus hostels for third year and final year students. The area is lush green and free from pollution. A single small tea shop is available on the campus.

A branch of Dakshin Bihar Gramin Bank is Functional here serving the needs of all students.

There are two new hostels along with an old hostel provided for College staffs & Guards, third and fourth-year students in the college campus. All hostels have telephones, television, Common room, indoor games court as well as WiMAX. All rooms are single seated for the students. A mess with dining room is functioning in the hostel, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served. There are also some private hostels providing accommodation to the students at Gaya Junction and Lakhibagh, Manpur Junction for boys and Nutan Nagar for girls. From the Gaya Junction, Manpur and Nutan Nagar at 6 am (classes start at 7 am) during the Summer period and Timing is elevated to 8:30 am for bus plying and 10 am for a class start during Winters.
